About the Author

HW Ryan

I was born in 1946 and grew up as an oilfield brat, moving along a line that stretched from Hobbs, New Mexico, to Houma, Louisiana.

I earned a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and spent more than thirty-five years with Accenture, working with clients in the United States and around the world. My work focused on implementing large-scale business systems and helping organizations navigate complex change.

In my retirement, I have had the opportunity to focus on several interests, including writing, flying, and woodworking. Writing has been a lifelong interest for me, beginning at the age of eleven.

My wife and I were married in 1969. We have three children and seven grandchildren. Over the years, my interests have ranged from archery to aviation to woodworking to travel. Each of those pursuits, in one way or another, has found its way into my writing. I try to write stories that feel grounded in the possible, with the occasional laugh.

The notion of someone damaged by a life experience and recovering from it fascinates me. I write suspense thrillers with characters recovering from serious life setbacks who must find a way to regain what they have lost. Their recovery unfolds in complex, dangerous environments, often along borders between countries and cultures.

From years of work-related travel, I have seen how boundaries can create conflict through differences in language, culture, and law. It is remarkable how complex life can become because someone, at some time, drew a thin black line on a map.

If you’ve found your way here, I hope you’ll explore the books, read the blog, and join the conversation. I’d love to know your thoughts.
